Hardwood facts you need to know

We’ll start off by telling you that hardwood flooring requires an acclimation period of between 24 and 72 hours. This allows both your old and new flooring to reach the same moisture content levels. After that, the installation can begin.
Prior to any acclimation, however, you’ll be choosing a wood species that fits your specific need. Busy households require a species that’s extra durable, so the harder the wood for these areas, the better. Some good options that are popular for those areas include solid oak and cherry. For areas with much less traffic, softer woods are acceptable. These areas might include walk-in closets, pantries, or perhaps a very private room with little traffic.
One of the most sought after characteristics of hardwood flooring is its immense lifespan. With proper maintenance and care, these floors can last well over 50 years, and 100 years with ease. While the flooring itself, and the necessary professional installation that goes with it, costs a little more up front, over the course of time you’ll find it to be a very cost-effective flooring. Considering that most homeowners will completely replace their flooring at least three to four times, compared to no replacements for you.
